George Clooney is an actor, producer, screenwriter, and director. Many of his movies are a reflection of his personal political slants, and he has unabashedly used his fame to promote social and humanitarian causes.
Clooney first appeared on dish network channels in the 1980s in guest roles including /The Facts of Life, The Golden Girls/ and /Roseanne./ He started to receive acclaim when he played Dr. Doug Ross on the primetime TV show /ER/ from 1994 to 1999. For this role, he received two Emmy Award nominations and three Golden Globe nominations.
In 1996, George Clooney won an MTV Award for Best Breakthrough Performance for his role as Seth Gecko in /From Dusk till Dawn./ He has since gone on to star in several blockbuster movies such as /Three Kings, The Perfect Storm,/ /O Brother, Where Art Thou?, Oceans Eleven, Good Night, and Good Luck,/Syriana, Michael Clayton/ and /The Men Who Stare at Goats./
His most recent film is /Up in the Air/ (2009), in which he plays Ryan Bingham, a corporate downsizing expert stuck in a malaise of eternal flight patterns. For this role, he has won international critical acclaim, with an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor and a nomination for Best Actor from the Toronto Film Critics Association.
Clooney comes from a family of entertainers, including his father Nick Clooney, a TV newscaster, Uncle Jose Ferrer and Aunt Rosemary Clooney. Although he was married to Talia Balsom from 1989 to 1993, he has vowed to never marry again.
